N St Sloppy Joes

N Street Sloppy Joes
Batch for six servings

4 Tbsp of oil

1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
or 4 - 6 slices of firm tofu (depending on thickness of
slices)

1 large onion
2 medium or 1 large green pepper(s)
Two 15 oz cans crushed tomatoes or sauce (the large 29 oz cans work out ok)
1 1/2 Tbsp chili powder (not hot)
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp oregano
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp mustard (the condiment, not the herb)
1TBSp or more sugar
2 Tbsp or more worchestershire sauce (there's a vegetarian
version without anchovies, if making the tofu version but the regular
kind is better so use that for the turkey version)

Sautee onion and bell peppers in oil until almost done.
Add ground turkey or crumbled tofu.
When turkey is done, add spices, sugar, tomato sauce, soysauce, worchestershire sauce.
Simmer until the sauce thickens to appropriate sloppy joe consistency.
You can add corn starch if its too runny.
I usually add quite a bit more worschestershire sauce than this recipe
calls for and little more sugar. The key ingredients in this
recipe...the things that make the sauce taste like sloppy joes... seems
to be the worchestershire sauce and sugar.
